THOUGHTS FROM PHIL

Well, here we are into 2018 and after a nice quiet Christmas and a mild New Year celebration the weather decided to show its power with strong winds driving rains and flooding. I will admit we needed rain but not the way it was dealt to us. The full length of the country feeling its effect.

However it is now time to decide what our programme is for the year ahead. February, March and April are already planned and well underway so as I write this my mind is darting here and there thinking of places to go and points of interest.

I find now that, given the size our Club has got and the big numbers we get on our runs it is more difficult to organise morning tea and lunch stops, especially in the weekends where we can all be catered for in a reasonable time. Also it is not always possible to get everyone in the same Motel but quite often there is other accommodation handy. Then the problem is, how do you decide who goes where. I work on the principal of first in first served, not on alphabetical order.

But it is great that our organised events are well attended by our members and that makes the extra bit of organisation our Committee has to do all worthwhile.

So here’s to 2018 and the outings our Committee is putting together for this year.

Take care and safe driving.

Take care,
Phil

Saturday February 10th Te Puke A & P Show

The Te Puke A & P Association has invited the Club to display their cars again next year.

We have displayed our cars there for the last two years. The show has good attendance and is interesting, other clubs display their cars as well.

We have 9 cars registered for the day, another Jag to make an even 10 would be good.

Members interested in displaying their car on the day could you please register your name to Phil.  Email: jagdriversbop@gmail.com.

Saturday February 17th Raglan Run one night away (***)

This run will take us via Huntly to visit the Glen Afton Line Heritage Railway which was built to convey the coal from the Pukemiro Coalfields and Rotowaro Fields.

Glen Afton Line Heritage Railway.

Hear some of the history of this area and take a trip along the track by train.

Then down some interesting back roads towards Raglan, visit the Bridal Falls and a night stay in Raglan.

This run coincides with a run organised by Francis Kay, NZ coordinator of the UK E Type Club at Raglan on that date as well. He has just finished the restoration of his own Series 1 E Type after a 6 year labour of love.

Wainui Reserve.

Frances has kindly invited our Club to join them all for a BBQ Saturday evening at his Raglan holiday home.  Could well be a number of E Types, I would think.

The following day a visit to the Wainui Reserve for the views and return home via Te Pahu Rd, Pirongia and Te Awamutu, and a visit to a Car collection. British, I have heard.

One of the problems at Raglan is getting the accommodation as it is a very popular place. I have holds on a number of rooms and will need names early from those interested as they will not hold them to long. First in first served.

(***)  NOTE: This Raglan run is fully booked. The itinerary for this run will be sent out in late January to all those registered.

Sunday March 4th Auckland Brit & Euro Classic Car Show

The Auckland Jaguar Drivers Club, which is the organiser of the Brit and Euro Classic Car Show has invited our Club to join them on Sunday 4th at East Auckland’s Lloyd Elsmore Park to display our cars along with theirs.

They are planning for around 750 cars on display. This year they had 650.

This will be a day trip so an early start would be required for those wanting to take part.

Members interested in maybe staying in Auckland Saturday night can make their own accommodation arrangements.

A lot of us are heading South later in the month to the 2018 Rally so this might be a good outing for those not going South.

As there is a bit of organising to be done the Auckland Club would need an indication of how many of our cars would be on show for space allocation at the park. Members who would be interested in showing their cars -  names to Phil by Friday February 9th.  Email:  jagdriversbop@gmail.com
